Life is a Carnival...or Festival in this case

Sunshine, and great music last week Thursday at the Kemptville Live Music Festival - Thanks so much Bob Beshera for having us and to Derek our wonderful sound guy at the Bounder stage for taking care of us. Highlight of the day - getting to see the incredible Dawn Tyler Watson work her magic on stage with the Ben Racine Band - Sensational doesn't even do it justice. She's AWE-SOME! Looking forward to her show in February in Westport! Some fun snaps below courtesy of photographer Rheal Doucette of Doucette Photography.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder?

I really have no idea if anyone even reads these blogs....and admittedly, I've been a little remiss in keeping it up to date....so....we'll see how long we'll keep this up...

In the meantime.... since the last post, Head over Heels has been keeping pretty busy.  Lots of good stuff coming up this week in Gig-Land starting tomorrow with a private show up in Perth in the afternoon, then we're driving up to Kemptville, Ontario for the Kemptville Live Music Festival where you'll find us on the Bounder Stage between acts (my first time at this - no idea what to expect) - we're REALLY looking forward to catching the incredible Dawn Tyler Watson's performance that night - been wanting to see her live for a long time! SATURDAY, a bit closer to home we're at Muskie Jake's Tap & Grill at the Gananoque Inn for the first time - if you find yourself in the area drop by between 6:30-9:30pm and catch a few tunes. SUNDAY we are back at The Cove Country Inn for another session on the patio from 12:30-3:30pm. It's THE BEST place to wind up the weekend and we look forward to it every week.  Life is GOOD! #SUPPORTLIVEMUSIC - hope we'll see some familiar faces along the way. Have a great weekend!

Long Weekend Alert!

As another long weekend rolls around - wow, where did June go??  We've been pretty busy gigging, most recently enjoyed some "Magic Moments" this past Thursday night at the #BatterseaPorchSessions with the delightful folks at Holiday Country Manor. What a great place to be! A beautiful enclosed porch to play in, most gracious owners Jeff and Core who are renovating this grand old manor house. Amazing food and a supportive and lovely group of people listening. They've got something special there indeed. Drop by and check them out sometime - Every Thursday there's music on the porch - places like this remind us to slow down, relax, be present, and enjoy the important things - like the company of good friends. Looking forward to being back there in August!

Sunday turned out to be a pretty stellar day out on the patio. We've been especially blessed these last two weekends at The Cove Country Inn, with marvellously attentive audiences - a performer's dream.  Ever so grateful to those who come up after a set and say hello, or buy a CD, or in some cases hire us for a special occasion - Love it! Thank you so much.

We've got some special gigs coming up this Canada Day Long weekend; Saturday afternoon we'll be on the patio at the beautiful Huff Estates Winery in the county.  Then a double header at The Cove Inn with the one and only Zak Colbert - bassist extraordinaire.  First round is 12:30-3:30pm, then the next show (after a nap!) is 6-9pm.  There will be fireworks down at the Westport town park afterwards. Hope to see some of you out and about on the weekend. In the meantime - Stay Cool!

Who Doesn't Love a Long Weekend??

It was a pretty lovely long Victoria Day weekend!  Head and I had good fun Friday night at the Glen House Resort - great to see some old friends from Maitland, and Kingston who came up for the music (thanks for the pic Susan).

Sunday afternoon, Mother Nature was in a chilly mood, conspiring against our patio plan at The Cove Country Inn, so we moved indoors and played to the folks in the lounge - I was super happy to have my brother in the audience with his wee family from Toronto - and it was nice to spend time with them in Westport.   We stuck around Sunday to catch the Tony Silvestri band in the evening! They are all fantastic players; Tom Savage Music, Tony SIlvestri, Richard Piche and Bonz Bowering put on quite a show. Go see 'em if you can!  If you missed it - here are some photos I shot at the show:  https://www.smugmug.com/gallery/n-VCCmNv

Coming up this week, Mr. Head and I return to the Cove on Sunday for another attempt to play outside on their beautiful weather.  I'm watching the forecast and keeping my fingers and toes crossed.  Hope to see you soon - V

The Beat Goes On...

So since we last checked in, Saturday before last, Mr. Head and I took off down the 401 to Picton, to what was one of our best ever nights at The Acoustic Grill

What an great crowd - even had a terrific singalong towards the end of the night. Thanks to Steve Purtelle & Jenny Leigh for being such gracious hosts - Check them out if you're ever in PEC - oh and thanks to Kevin's brother Jim and sister-in-law Mary from Victoria who surprised us by showing up to our gig!....Good times!

I've had a little time off - but HoH is on deck this weekend and the one and only Zak is BACK to join us at the RCHA Club Kingston from 9-12pm.

I had to borrow this pic of Zak from Miss Emily's twitter post - cuz it's awesome๐Ÿ˜Ž

Should be a good time - we've been working on some new material.  A good crowd always helps the energy.  So if you're in the area, pop up and listen to a few tunes.

Hard to believe - the May 2-4 weekend is just a short week away...and thus will begin our summer stint at the Cove. Can't wait.

Cheers for now - V

Readin', Writin', Rockin' & Rollin'....

It's spring (FINALLY) and things are starting to ramp up for us, starting FRIDAY night at the 1000 Islands Playhouse with the launch of the 1000 Islands Writers Festival in Gananoque - Mr. Head and I will play a few tunes at the Mix & Mingle following a presentation by one of the authors - I think we're on from 9:00-10:00pm.

SATURDAY night, Mr. Head and I will hop in the car and drive out to the County to perform at The Acoustic Grill from 7-10pm. Always a fun place to play, Steve Purtelle has created an awesome venue for music with great staff and delish food (I'm already craving an "Oh My Darlin' Burger w/Sweet potato fries..... ๐Ÿ˜‹) - Hope you get to check out the Writersfest this weekend. The new organizers have really done an amazing job of pulling this event together for our community - I'm looking forward to hearing some of the authors speak about their work (and pick up some new reading material for the summer!)

See you along the way!! - V

Spring FEVER....

Well our gig in Belleville was cancelled due to the unseasonlike weather Mother Nature lobbed at us. She was having quite a tantrum this weekend.... nothing tests my sanity like a trip down the 401 in inclement weather - so Mr. Head and I hunkered down snug at home and worked on music...tossing around ideas for new tunes to cover, talking about writing stuff of our own... We've also been booking some more gigs of the summer - I just finished up a new poster for a show at the beautiful Huff Estates Winery in the County - looking forward to that one for sure - WINE, Music - a long weekend - What's not to like?

I have the weekend off this week, but Mr. Head will be out playing with the Bob Robertson Trio Saturday night at the Stonewater Pub in Gananoque. If you haven't seen those guys - go check them out...they harmonize beautifully, great tunes you don't often hear.

Me, I'm going to hang out with the cats and likely work on my very rusty guitar skills...

Stay tuned for the next post - in the meantime, look after one another, and support live music wherever you are. - V

April Showers Bring.....

....well hopefully a spectacular floral display come May...but in the meantime this weather sure has put a damper on people's moods...grateful for gigs, like this past one at the Cove, that get us out of the house and interacting with others - it's too easy when the weather is so gloomy to just want to burrow under the covers and hide until Summer ๐Ÿ˜  Plus, a couple of hours playing music sure is good therapy.  Thanks to everyone who came to see us in Westport this past weekend. Lovely to catch up with Mary & Terry Cowan too!

We're super thrilled to officially announce our summer residency on the Cove Patio - every Sunday from the May Long weekend until Thanksgiving.  I think this is our 7th or 8th year. Kevin was playing the patio, long before I hijacked his gig, but I think its our 7th as a formal duo. Time sure flies when you're having fun๐Ÿ˜Š

Coming up this weekend - we're heading to Belleville to perform at a lovely restaurant on the main drag called Capers.  It's a beautiful space, amazing food, and terrific staff.  Thanks to Melanie for having us back.  If you're in the area drop in for a bite and a few tunes.

That's about it for this entry. I'll try to be better at posting more frequently. In the meantime, go out and support live music where you can! We'll see you along the road sometime soon.

Coming out of Hibernation....

Winter usually means fewer gigs, which is not necessarily a bad thing, as it means we get a little time to do the things we never get to do during the busy summer season - catch other musician's shows, catch up with family and friends, and glamorous stuff like...housework.  Also it gives us time to recharge and reenergize for the coming summer months, and gig packed weekends.  Our calendar is filling up pretty quickly.  To our delight, we will be back on the Cove Country Inn patio every Sunday afternoon from 12:30pm - 3:30pm, starting the Victoria Day weekend until Thanksgiving.

Also, in addition to playing the Kempville Live Music Festival in July, it looks like we'll be returning to play the Limestone City Blues Festival in August - with a full band! More details later on. I gotta say, as much as I love our duo stuff, it really is a kick to perform with a band - Wowza.  We'll keep you posted as more dates come in.

In the meantime, our next gig is on Saturday, March 31st at Moroni's in Gananoque as part of a fundraising event for Joe Brady and his wife Sherry. Joe's a beloved member of the musical community, a fabulous bass player, and original member of Percy and the Teardrops. Kevin and I had the privilege of working with Joe in a Johnny Cash tribute show a few years back - Joe's a swell guy.  Unfortunately, he has cancer, and his friends and family are hoping to raise some funds to help the Brady's through this difficult period as neither of them are working.  Come down if you can - great line up of are musicians running all afternoon until late.

S'all I have for now.  Hope to see you soon! - Miss V

C'Mon SUMMER!!!!!

Turning the clock ahead, to Summer (it's coming, really! ๐Ÿ˜Ž) Mr. Head and I are pretty thrilled to be playing at this year's "Kemptville Live Music Festival" on Thursday, July 19. For me this will be my very first festival, so it's kind of a big deal - they have quite a line up for this event and we are especially looking forward to catching the amazing Dawn Tyler Watson's set later that night, she's an incredible vocalist and performer - we're huge fans, and the headliner that night is Downchild! You can check out all the Festival details here: https://www.kemptvillelivemusicfestival.com
