When Words Fail, Music Speaks...

We had an amazing time at the Whitehorse concert last Thursday. Wow. The songwriting, the performance...so inspiring.  If you haven't checked out Whitehorse (Luke Doucet and Melissa McLelland) get to your iTunes now. Really great Canadian duo, really great music.

Had a lovely time at The Cove on Saturday - I get the weekend off this week as Mr. Head is performing with the Bob Robertson Trio.  See you soon!

Music is the Gift that Keeps on Giving

Mr. Head and I had such an amazing time last Sunday afternoon at "A Greavis Gathering" at Blu Martini! Local Musician Derrick Claridge did an amazing job herding all of the kingston musical cats - in honour of two of YGK's most devoted Live Music supporters; Mavis Livingston & Greg Richmond aka GREAVIS.  So much amazing live music - and so awesome to finally hear some folks we never get to see, cuz we're usually working.  It was an honour to be included in this lineup and a treat to have sax-man extraordinaire Ian Kojima join us for a couple of songs! Thanks Ian!

Mavis and Greg you are so very deserving of this recognition, always a treat to see your smiling faces in the crowd. Thanks for all you do to #SupportLiveMusic.

TONIGHT - Friday, November 17 one of my favourite local artists; Heather Haynes is exhibiting her amazing art installation "The Wall of Courage" in the Firehall Theatre in Gananoque.  Mr. Head and I along with a stellar roster of Gananoque musicians will be performing an evening of music in conjunction with the"Wall of Courage" Art Exhibit.  Admission is $10 and all proceeds go to the "Worlds Collide" charity https://www.worldscollideafrica.com.

If you are in the area - please consider checking out the show, and Heather's incredibly moving portraits! Big Thanks go to Jeff Montgomery for putting this evening together - hope to see you all there! #MusicintheCommunity

TGIF thoughts...

There are few songs in the world as universally loved as this one.... when I was a little girl it was the song that made me want to become a singer...
I still get goosebumps and choked up every time I hear it...every. single. time.

Long time no see!

It's been a wee while since our last post.  Time sometimes gets away from us.  After the amazing "Between the Lines" show at The Cove Inn, we took a little break and spent some time over in Ireland visiting a friend, seeing the sights, sampling the whiskey AND of course checking out the music.  Mr. Head even got to sit in on few jams, and we played an impromptu set in the piano lounge at the Abbeyglen Castle Hotel in beautiful Clifden on the West Coast.  A fun and fabulous family run property...imagine if The Cove Country Inn was an Irish Manor house.  We were away for two weeks and now it's back to the regular grind :-)

Gigs tend to slow down this time of year, but we do have a few dates coming up...

November 12 - we'll help celebrate the dynamic duo of Mavis Livingston & Greg Richmond - two tireless supporters of Kingston's live music scene. Lots of music at "A Greavis Gatherine" at Blu Martini.

November 25th - After you've enjoyed the annual Westport Santa Claus parade - come in from the cold and let us warm you up with a few tunes in The Cove Country Inn Lounge.

We do have a few open dates between now and Christmas if you're looking for some Live music for your holiday party - it's more affordable than you think - feel free to contact us!

In the meantime - we hope to see you at one of our gigs! And thanks for supporting us!

Time FLIES When You're Having Fun!!

Wow it's been a busy few weeks - time to catch up the ol' blog -  August 25th's gig at Confederation Park for the Limestone City Bluesfest was an absolute blast - big thanks go out to Gord McRae, Zak Colbert and Rick Flanagan who helped to make our Head over Heels Bluesfest debut so awesome - it was a pretty big deal for Miss V to step up and belt out a few bluesy numbers with a full band - and no rehearsal!

Well done! After that gig we drove up to the lovely Holiday Country Manor in beautiful Battersea where we experienced the privilege of playing for a listening audience - so cool! Very grateful to our gracious hosts Jeff & Core for having us - the food is awesome! It's a beautiful drive, and Jeff and Core are working hard to build something special there - check it out sometime!

One of the things we love about playing at The Cove Inn is the lovely folks we get to meet, and get to know over the years.  The Bosman family often come out to our gigs on the patio on their motorcycles and so we were absolutely delighted to have been part of Nick & Megan's big day this past Labour day weekend.  It was a first for us as we've never been a "wedding gift"before!! Lovely to be there and play a few tunes for them! What a Gorgeous bride and groom and a beautiful family - big thanks to Nick's parents Helga and Rob for asking us!! We wish them all the best and we look forward to seeing them again at The Cove someday soon! #loveandmusic

Finally, Hard to believe another Labour Day is behind us, the kids are back in school....our Sundays on the patio The Cove Country Inn for 2017 are drawing to an end...As much as we love Fall, it's always a little sad for us as we say good bye to the regulars and new friends who will be closing up their cottages and heading home, and some of the young staff heading back to school...we've been having such a great time with you allπŸ™ - ok before I get too sappy here - We DO still have 3 more Sundays to go... Miss V and I will be back at the Cove - on the patio if weather permits or inside in the Lounge from 12:30-3:30pm - come out and say hi, and stay for a few tunes - we'd love to see you. In the meantime - Stay Cool & Keep Warm....

Check us out in The Humm!

Well no sooner were the words out of my mouth than up popped the article on The Humm's website! It's a wonderful free publication highlighting businesses and artists (visual, musical, creative) in the Ottawa Valley. We're super thrilled they did this piece, on little ol' us 😊 (Thanks Georgia & Seamus!).

Music Music and More Music....

Got to check out two of our favourite performers, Rick Fines and Suzie Vinnick last weekend.  Two of the loveliest, talented and sincere people you'll ever meet - they put on  an amazing show.  Picked up a copy of Suzie's "Me n' Mabel" CD too - brilliant! Since our show at the Glen Lawrence Golf Club this Friday is being postponed... Head and I will head down to Joel Stone Park in Gananoque to catch The Whiteleys (Ken Whiteley, Jenny Whiteley Music, and more!) in concert by the waterfront - we try to support as much live music as we can when we are not working!

SUNDAY, Kev and I will spend the afternoon in our favourite spot, The Cove Country Inn patio from 12:30-3:30pm. (Oh and while you're at the Cove, pick up a copy of the awesome free August edition of theHumm and check out the little piece they did on us 😊 - it's pretty exciting for me, V - gotta send a copy home to Mom) I'll post it as soon as the e-copy is up.  Only a couple more weeks til our Sunday residency will come to an end for the summer - so we are savouring every moment!

We're also looking ahead to bookings in the fall and winter - if you think our repertoire will suit your event, or venue, give Mr. Head a call (613) 539-4323 or shoot us an email and we'll be happy to come play for you.  Hope to see you along the way - please be sure to come up and say Hi!

Cheers!

It's the End of JULY Already???

The rain held off for our Joel Stone Park show with the Bob Robertson Trio and special guests.   We played to a small but appreciative audience nice to see some of our neighbours out in the audience. Thanks to Doug Gifford, Bob Robertson, Gord McRae, Henry Heillig who drove up from Toronto, Dan Artuso who came down from Ottawa -  they are amazing musicians and for me it's a dream come true to play with a band, and especially such wonderful players. Thanks also to the always genial Doug Reansbury for doing a fabulous job of making us sound great!

THIS WEEK - a mini road trip... We rarely play Kingston so we're looking forward to FRIDAY night when we head down Hwy 2 to Kingston at DOX Restaurant Bar & Patio, Holiday Inn Waterfront - 6 to 9pm. Then SATURDAY Night Kev and I jump on the 401 to Belleville where we'll play at Capers restaurant (food is dynamite by the way!) 8-11pm, and then SUNDAY we return to The Cove Country Inn to wrap up the weekend 12:30-3:30! Forecast is looking promising all weekend, what better time to get outside and enjoy some tunes! Hope to see some of you out there, we've been working on new (to us) tunes that we hope you'll enjoy. See you soon! V

Time Flies When You're Having FUN!

Where does the time go? Seems like Canada Day weekend was just a few days ago! We had a pretty stellar time at The Cove Country Inn on the big 150th weekend. Weather was touch and go on Saturday, so we played to an enthusiastic crowd indoors, and Sunday Mother Nature graced us with some sunshine. On the holiday Monday, we had the rare opportunity to go and listen to some live music ourselves, and we headed back up to the Cove to catch Greg Ball, and Ruben DeGroot's afternoon show - it's such a treat to be able to just be listeners in the audience.
Miss V at Mirvish

On that note - Thursday, I headed to Toronto for some musical inspiration and took my Mom to see "BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical" at the Mirvish Theatre -  It's brilliant, really - and for anyone who has been influenced, or affected by the "Tapestry" album, or Carole King's story - it's a must see...some amazing music and wonderful performances - Chilina Kennedy - wow.

View from the Glen House
This past weekend was a busy one - Friday and Saturday night saw Kevin and I out at another lovely waterside resort, The Glen House. Met some lovely folks from Pennsylvania, Montreal, and Glace Bay Nova Scotia (which is where Kevin's family hails from), and just had a blast doing our tunes.

We wrapped up our weekend at our home away from home, the Cove. A pretty splendiferous Sunday, with a very attentive and kind audience...we're so very lucky. By the way, we were interviewed for the August edition of The Humm magazine - which is pretty swell - love that publication - more on that later.

Hope we'll see you in the coming days - thanks for supporting our habit πŸ˜‰

Feeling "Tip"sy?

Someone asked the other day why we don't really announce the fact that we have a tip jar. We do have one with us on stage - but honestly, we're not inclined to make a big deal about tips as we don't want people to feel obliged or pressured into tipping. We've always seen tipping as a voluntary thing - if you really like what we're doing by all means please feel free to make a donation to the tip jar if you feel so inclined - it's always very much appreciated.

We're equally grateful to the folks who come up and pay us a compliment, ask for some promo cards, or say a few kind words. We just hope you enjoy the music, and that we've made a difference in your day in a good way.

Thanks as always for the support - you make it possible for us to keep doing what we love.

Kevin & Vanessa
